Many students that have gotten admission and are now enrolled as students take advantage of the free German course that many universities in Germany offer. Good to know is that the free German course runs for six months for a single level. On the other hand, taking a paid intensive German course, a level can be completed within 4 to 6 weeks. As such, there is quite a huge difference.

The caveat is that if you are not admitted yet and the admission requires a German language certificate then this is normally not applicable as a free German course because to have access to this course, you must be enrolled as a student already or make necessary payments. In this case, you may have to get the German language certificate first and use it in processing your admission.

One then uses this conditional admission to get a visa, travel into Germany and take a private course to complete the language requirement. The free language class is still not accessible because the admission is only conditional and there is not yet an the possibility to be enrolled as a student.
